The 8×57 IS with the 7,8 g/ 120 grain Open Tip bullet is ideal for hunting practice

The 8×57 IS has earned a strong hunting reputation in recent years, but is now taking a step in the target shooting direction. Lapua Sales Manager, Erkki Seikkula, explains the thought process behind our new 8mm 7,8 g/ 120 grain OT bullet:

“We designed an easy and softly firing bullet that meets Lapua’s strict accuracy requirements. The precision of this bullet offers shooters the opportunity to practice with the same rifle that they hunt with. For avid hunters that enjoy target competitions, the performance of this projectile can really make a difference.”

A notable advantage of the bullet and the factory-loaded cartridge is that the bullet’s point of impact coincides with the Lapua Naturalis hunting projectile, making this ammo ideal for hunting practice.

While the 6.5 Creedmoor continues to increase in popularity in competitive shooting, there is also a growing demand for a match solution for .260 Remington. Lapua has risen to the occasion and presents two factory-loaded cartridges designed to conquer the market and outperfom the competition at ranges up to 1,000 m/yds and even beyond.

The .260 Rem is loaded with the 8,8 gram / 136 grain Scenar-L bullet. Introduced in 2013, it has ever since become a staple midrange and long range match projectile in 6.5 mm applications.

Both calibers are C.I.P. approved. Even if the .260 Rem. cartridge has a slightly shorter max overall length compared to the 6.5 Creedmoor round, it still performs similar to the latter in terms of muzzle velocity and hit accuracy. The biggest difference between the two is that the 6.5 Creedmoor case is Small Rifle Primer while the .260 Rem. has a Large Rifle Primer pocket.

Lapua is the world leader in providing match grade projectiles in this caliber, offering several types of Ball, Open-Tip, Armor Piercing, Solid, and Subsonic bullets. Since the introduction of the legendary D46 cartridge, still in use today, Lapua’s .308 Winchester ammunition is in use by militaries and government agencies throughout the world. Lapua .308 ammunition is not only the world’s most accurate, but the closely matched ballistic trajectories between different projectile types increases its tactical effectiveness for the operator. .308 Winchester is probably the most versatile centerfire rifle caliber today, and capable of outstanding accuracy.
