New .300 Winchester Magnum cartridges for hunters and target shooters

For 2021, Lapua offers three new cartridges for .300 Winchester Magnum. The .300 Win Mag. is known for its extreme versatility and as such it’s a great cartridge option for hunters, target shooters, military and law enforcement departments alike. Lapua is happy to offer two new options for hunters and one for target shooters.

Hunting cartridges with significant stopping power

As the .300 Win Mag. is known for its accuracy, hunters have found the cartridge to be an effective all-around choice for various types of game and hunting conditions. Most firearms manufacturers chamber for this caliber and there are numerous rifle options to choose from. With the new .300 Win Mag. Lapua case we now also offer two new factory-loaded hunting cartridges:
  • .300 Win Mag. loaded with the 11,0 gram / 170 grain Naturalis bullet and
  • .300 Win Mag. loaded with the 12,0 gram / 185 grain SP MEGA bullet.
Both cartridges offer something for every hunter. A fan favorite for many years, the traditional MEGA is a lead core, mechanically bonded, soft point hunting projectile. The third generation Lapua Naturalis bullet with its special valve design offers a completely lead-free option with that perfect mushrooming effect. With muzzle velocities that enable extremely straight flight trajectories, these rounds are an obvious choice for long range hunting or for situations that demand significant stopping power.

Long range target accuracy with Lapua Scenar

For the demanding target shooters, long range enthusiasts and tactical units, Lapua offers the perfect cartridge option: the  .300 Win Mag. with the 12,0 g / 185 gr OTM Scenar bullet. New Open Tip bullets and factory-loaded cartridges by Lapua

For 2021, Lapua offers new Open Tip (OT) bullets and factory-loaded cartridges for target and hunting practice: Introducing the 8 mm OT bullet and 8×57 IS OT cartridge, and the 9.3mm OT bullet and 9.3×62 OT cartridge. The 8×57 IS has earned a strong hunting reputation in recent years, but is now taking a step in the target shooting direction. Lapua Sales Manager, Erkki Seikkula, explains the thought process behind our new 8mm 7,8 g/ 120 grain OT bullet: “We designed an easy and softly firing bullet that meets Lapua’s strict accuracy requirements. The precision of this bullet offers shooters the opportunity to practice with the same rifle that they hunt with. For avid hunters that enjoy target competitions, the performance of this projectile can really make a difference.” A notable advantage of the bullet and the factory-loaded cartridge is that the bullet’s point of impact coincides with the Lapua Naturalis, making both products ideal for hunting practice. The 9.3×62 has traditionally been used only with big game hunting in mind. With the Nationals Championships for Smallbore Rifle Silhouette cancelled in Canada, USA, and Mexico, the 2020 Lapua Monarch Cup has been postponed until 2021. “In light of the current global health situation surround COVID-19, the Monarch Cup Board of Directors made the difficult decision to postpone the Lapua Monarch Cup from 2020 to 2021,” stated Monarch Cup Director, Daniel Salazer. “The uncertainty regarding international travel and the concern for the safety of our friends and competitors, led to this very disappointing decision. We vow to make the 2021 Lapua Monarch Cup an event to remember.” In its inaugural year, the Lapua Monarch Cup was the must-attend event of the silhouette shooting world. Hosted in three different countries: Canada, United States and Mexico and taking place throughout the summer and fall of 2020. Competitors earn points from each match within their respective classification (Master, AAA, AA, & A), giving all shooters an opportunity for the $25,000 in cash prizes. “Lapua is saddened that this difficult decision had to be made, but we know it’s the right one,” stated Adam Braverman, Director of Sales and Marketing. “The board and Lapua’s top priority is of the health and safety of the international shooting community. “I’m originally from a small town in the south of Sweden and growing up there, the shooting club was strong. I think most kids in town tried air rifle at some time. I was never a talent but enjoyed the atmosphere and the people in the club. We had a lot of fun traveling to competitions all over the country. Focus back then was mostly on our national style 300 meter shooting caliber 6,5×55. That focus later switched to the ISSF events on 10 and 50 meter but in the last few years I have once again discovered the joy of 300 meter shooting. My favorite Lapua ammunition is without a doubt the Lapua Scenar 6 mm BR. No matter which batch I pick I know I can trust the ammo in any weather condition. It has given me a lot of self-confidence. Coming back to 300 meter shooting around 2015, I was really struggling with the standard rifle 3×20 event. Slowly I started to understand what it was all about and learned to master the heavier trigger and the limited adjustment possibilities of the rifle. That journey has been a lot of fun and it is an indescribable feeling to fight for medals in big championships with all the stress and adrenaline it brings. Making competition memories with your team mates is something I wish for any competitive shooter. At last year’s European championship Sweden had a strong prone team with Johan Gustafsson, Per Sandberg and me. Prone is always a close match and the competition is tough. We were four points down before I stepped in to the competition as the last shooter. It was just one of those days when everything came together. Shooting a perfect score of 600 and helping my team break the 18 year old World Record was pretty cool. I think most competitive shooters have been multiple world champions back home in a safe training environment. But competitive shooting is all about winning medals when it counts. What it comes down to besides perfect equipment and body control is mind control. You can make the perfect preparations but if your mind is not there on that given day you don’t stand a chance. My tip for someone aspiring to be a top competitive shooter is: Be a team player. Learn from other shooters, share your own thoughts and experiences and make sure to have a lot of fun. After all, it is just a sport.”

Lapua is pleased to announce their renewed support of the Practical Rimfire Challenge as the title sponsor. The Lapua Practical Rimfire Challenge Series (LPRC) is held at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, WV. The series is an affordable 5-match series leading up to the finale in October.  The LPRC is designed to test the .22LR rifle shooter, ammunition and optics out to 300 yards. While most stages focus on long-range positional shooting skills, shooters will encounter stages set in natural terrain, stages with movement, Olympic stages of fire, Collegiate stages of fire and/or smallbore style stages. Shooters can select from the semi-auto or bolt action division.  All rifles must be chambered in .22LR and can be fitted with magnified optics. All legal, safe, and responsible amateur and professional shooters are welcomed. Registration for the LRPC is now open and will kick off this March.  Match dates are as follows:
  • Series Match 1 March 21/22
  • Series Match 2 May 25/26
  • Series Match 3 June 22/23
  • Series Match 4 July 27/28
  • Series Finale October 5

Mesa, AZ – For the third straight year, Team Lapua won the F-Open Grand Aggregate Team Award at the Berger Southwest Nationals (SWN) with a score of 2584-160X (out of a possible 2600). Team Lapua achieved an additional win and established a new range record in the Palma Team Match with a score of 1791-113 (out of a possible 1800). Lapua team members are Pat Scully, Jay Christopherson, David Christian, and Jeremy Smith, with Bob Sebold and Erik Cortina as Team Captains. Additionally, team members Jay Christopherson, Pat Scully and Tod Hendricks added individual accomplishments placing first, second and third respectively in the F-Open Grand Aggregate individual awards, adding an exclamation point to Lapua’s dominating results. The Berger Southwest Nationals, hosted by the Desert Sharpshooters Rifle Club, took place February 5-9th at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ with a sold-out roster of 400 competitors. The Southwest Nationals is the “must-attend” event for competitive long-range shooters around the world, featuring F-Open, FTR, and Sling disciplines. Competitors from over 9 different countries were in attendance. The Grand Aggregate is the total score from firing points of 600, 800, 900, and 1,000 yards. “I am very proud of the team,” stated, Team Captain, Erik Cortina, “From setting a new range record to placing first in the F-Open Grand Aggregate, our success is directly attributed to Lapua’s premium components.”
