Congratulations to Chad Heckler winning the International Precision Rifle Federation (IPRF) World Championship using Lapua 308 Winchester factory-loaded ammunition. Heckler represented the United States Precision Rifle Association Centerfire Team for the victory in the Limited Division.

IPRF Limited Division requires all shooters to compete with 308 Winchester commercial ammunition. Heckler selected Lapua 308 Winchester 175 Grain Scenar-L ammo, which is factory-assembled with both Lapua bullets and cases, and Vihtavuori smokeless powder.

Leading up to the IPRF World Championship, Heckler trusted Lapua 308 ammo and won the Michigan Precision Rifle Challenge, besting all Open Division shooters who handload their preferred cartridges through custom guns. An unprecedented result with the sophistication of handloads and firearm platforms utilized by today’s serious PRS competitor.

Heckler shared, “I entered the World Championship with the highest level of confidence using Lapua 308 Winchester ammunition. Lapua is recognized for producing the highest quality cases for long-range competitive shooting and reloading, so it made sense to run Lapua factory ammunition for this prestigious world match. The IPRF World Championship was held at the prestigious Cameo Shooting and Education Complex in Grand Junction, CO, September 11 – 17th. Top competitors from 23 participating countries competed in Open, Limited, and Factory divisions for Ladies, Junior, Senior, and Mil/LE classes.

Lapua European Cup Final 2024 range

The Lapua European Cup finals were held last week in Thun, Switzerland. A total of 74 top shooters from 18 nations participated. The shooting disciplines were 300 m rifle prone and 3-position (Women and Men), as well as Standard Open.

Handgun divisions were 25 m pistol Men, Standard Open and Mixed Teams. Besides European shooters, the event also invited teams from the USA and Japan to take part as guests. Thank you all who participated, and congratulations to all successful shooters!

Shane Barnhart 2nd place NRA Prone Nationals

Congratulations to our very own Shane Barnhart of Cardington, Ohio, for taking home second place in the 2024 NRA National Smallbore Prone Championship, a close behind U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Nick Mowrer. Shane, who won the title last year, finished with a score of 6394-525X in the Smallbore Prone aggregate, only one point behind Mowrer whose score was 6395-550X.

The 2024 USA NRA National Smallbore Prone Championship was held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, from July 28 to August 1.

Mowrer and Barnhart both also set 50-yard any sight national records: Mowrer set the record for service and Barnhart for military veteran. In third place and High Senior was Stephen R. Angeli, with a score of 6394-507X.  Deena Wigger was crowned High Woman with a score of 6393-491X.

Marko Nikko Wins First Leg of Lapua Monarch Cup

Congratulations to Finland’s Marko Nikkos on winning the first match of the 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup. Nikkos, who scored a 107/120X, edged out Team SK’s Jake Stine in a shootout to collect the $1,000 top prize. Stine took home $750 for his second place finish.

The Lapua Monarch Cup is a two-leg, multi-national smallbore silhouette series with the winner being touted as the North American Champion. Competitors scores from each match within their respective classification (Master, AAA, AA, & A), giving all shooters an opportunity for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. Lapua’s Monarch Cup is recognized as the must-attend event of the smallbore silhouette shooting world.

The 1st leg of the Lapua Monarch Cup was conducted at the Ridgway Rifle Club in Ridgway, PA at the 2024 NRA Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championship, July 28th – 30th. The 2nd leg of the Lapua Monarch Cup will be conducted at Club Saltillo in Mexico in October.

Smallbore Silhouette shooting is a fun and challenging shooting discipline that has competitors taking aim at a variety of steel chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams. Shooters, standing and unsupported, take aim at four banks of silhouettes at increasing distances, shooting 40 targets in all. For every silhouette knocked down, the competitor earns one point. Smallbore Silhouette competitors are shooting at distances of 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters.

Lapua sponsored Jari Laulumaa from Finland was crowned the 2-Gun European Champion at the Benchrest European Championships which were hosted at the Houraati shooting range in Finland between July 29th and August 3rd. “I am very pleased with the outcome this year”, comments Laulumaa. “I was able to achieve three major goals: becoming the European Champion, being accepted into the European Bench Rest Hall of Fame, and reaching my 200th podium finish.”

The 2024 European Benchrest Championships brought together over 70 of Europe’s top benchrest shooters from 10 countries to compete in Light Varmint (LV) and Heavy Varmint (HV) classes at 100 and 200 meters.

Lapua was one of the main sponsors of the event. Each class consists of six rounds in each class, with the first being a practice round. The final score board is based on the shooter’s average group size in millimeters. Competitors compete as individuals and national teams in the same series regardless of age or gender.

The team win this year went to Italy (Davide de Villa, Luca Paoni, Carmelo Rizzato and Alberto Lenzi). Second place went to team Austria (Wolfgang Voglstätter, Ekkehard Widmann, Andy Atzl, Severin Atzl) and third place to team Finland (Jari Laulumaa, Jonas Petterson, Marko Tanskanen, Jari Raudaskoski).

The daily individual aggregates were as follows:

100 meters Light Varmint:

  2. Frédéric Guegan, France – 5.760 mm avg
  3. Fabian Wallin, Sweden – 6.050 mm avg

Dan Lomas from the UK took part in the GBFCA F-Class Summer Long Range Challenge with great success. The MikMak’s Long Range Challenge took place at the UK National Shooting Centre in Bisley, on Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th June 2024. Dan took silver in matches 2 and 3, taking 3rd place in match 4. He won the daily aggregate on Saturday and secured silver in the Grand Aggregate.

“Im thrilled to get second in such a tough match against the countries top shooters. The load I was using throughout the weekend was exactly the same, so it had to perform through sun and rain, hot and cold and it still held up to the conditions perfectly. The conditions were a true test of consistency and robustness of components,” Dan comments.

Dan holds the 3rd place in the Great Britain F Class Association’s FTR League Standings this year.

Marko Leppä, the well-known Finnish shooting coach and competition community active, sadly passed away unexpectedly this past week. He was born in 1965.

Marko was the coach of his son Aleksi Leppä, our Lapua sponsored shooter who is currently competing at the 2024 Olympics. During a career in the shooting community spanning for decades, Marko held many roles in the Finnish Shooting Association and the Finnish Defense Forces Sports School. He organized shooting competitions and acted as referee in numerous events and disciplines, particularly pistol shooting. Marko had a close partnership with Lapua spanning more than 20 years.

For the people at Lapua, he was a longtime partner and to many, a friend. We offer our deepest condolences and sympathy to Marko’s family at this difficult time. Marko may be gone, but he is not forgotten.

Marko Leppä, vuonna 1965 syntynyt tunnettu suomalainen valmentaja ja ampumaurheilun aktiivimies, menehtyi yllättäen kuluneella viikolla.

Marko toimi tiiminsä Leppä.fi sekä poikansa Aleksi Lepän valmentajana. Aleksi Leppä on Lapuan sponsoroima ampuja, joka kilpailee parhaillaan olympialaisissa. Vuosikymmeniä kestäneen uransa aikana Marko toimi myös useissa tehtävissä mm. Suomen ampumaurheiluliitossa ja Puolustusvoimien Urheilukoulussa. Marko järjesti ampumakilpailuja ja toimi erotuomarina useissa tapahtumissa ja lajeissa, erityisesti pistooliammunnassa. Lapuan kanssa Markolla oli läheinen ja monipuolinen yhteistyö yli 20 vuoden ajan.

Marko oli Lapuan pitkäaikainen yhteistyökumppani ja monelle meistä myös ystävä. Esitämme syvimmät osanottomme Markon omaisille tänä vaikeana aikana. Markon muistoa kunnioittaen, Lapuan väki.

The event takes place in Lohtaja, Finland from Tuesday 29th July to Saturday, 3 August, 2024.
