Lapua, world-renowned for producing the finest rimfire ammunition for competitive shooting, is proud to announce their continued support of the US Biathlon Team. The US team, based in Lake Placid, NY, was founded in 1980 and has received Lapua’s continued support for years.

The biathlon sport combines two challenging disciplines in a manner like no other sport. Athletes must meet the physical demands of cross-country skiing and combine it with the skill of precision rifle marksmanship. Competitors cross-country ski while carrying their smallbore .22 LR rifle, which must meet a minimum weight requirement of 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs). While shooting, competitors fire (5) round from either prone or standing position and engage five targets at 50 meters (55 yards).

“The US Biathlon Team is thrilled to once again partner with Lapua for our team’s ammunition needs. Medals in biathlon are often decided by the smallest of margins. With Lapua, we know we are shooting the highest quality ammunition, giving us the best chance for top performances,” commented Tim Burke, Director of Athlete Development for US Biathlon and a World Championship medalist himself.  “Our athletes must have high confidence in their ammunition, and they have this with Lapua.”

“We’re extremely excited and honored to be supporting the US Biathlon team,” stated Adam Braverman, Vice President of Marketing at Lapua. “We know our .22LR ammunition will support the Biathlon team’s vision to stand atop the international biathlon stage.”

Smallbore silhouette shooting is a fun and challenging shooting discipline that has competitors taking aim at a variety of steel chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. Shooters, both standing and unsupported, take aim at four banks of silhouettes at increasing distances shooting 40 targets in all. For every silhouette knocked down, the competitors earn one point.  Smallbore shooters are shooting at distances of 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters.  The Mexico competition will have competitors shooting 80 rounds on Saturday, followed by 40 rounds on Sunday, all within the Standard Rifle division.

“It is with much excitement and joy that the Lapua Monarch board members complete the second phase of the Monarch cup,” commented Daniel Salazar, Chairman of the Board. “The Saltillo Safari Club is putting extraordinary efforts into making this the event to remember. We can’t wait to celebrate the success of the Lapua Monarch Cup and see who the best Silhouette shooter is in the Hemisphere!”
