Team Lapua’s dominant performance also set a new National record of 800-53X, breaking the previous record by 11 X’s. Lapua team members are Tod Hendricks, Ted Wedell, Jeremy Smith, David Christian and Jay Christopherson, with Bob Sebold as coach and Erik Cortina as Team Captain.  Each team member fires 20-rounds @ 1,000 yards.

“We noticed in the forecast that the wind conditions were going to be mild, and there was a chance to set a new National record,” commented Captain, Erik Cortina. “The previous record was an 800-42X, so we knew we all had to shoot perfect scores to claim the record.  It felt great when the 80th shot came up an X!  We managed to score 800-53X, beating the old record by 11X’s.”

Additionally, team members Jay Christopherson, David Christian and Erik Cortina finished in the top 10 of the individual championship. The team took an overall 3rd place finish in the mid-range team championships, adding an exclamation point to Lapua’s dominating results.  The 2023 US F-Class Long Range National Championships were hosted by the Desert Sharpshooters and held November 1-5th at Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, AZ. Team Lapua member Jack Neary ended the 2023 NBRSA season on top of his game by winning both the 2023 “Fall Classic” NBRSA Group Match and Fall Finale Brenchrest Regional.

The 2023 “Fall Classic” NBRSA Group Match was hosted by the Western Wayne County Conservation Association (WWCCA) on October 8th and 9th.  Shooters competed in tricky 10-20 mph winds on both Saturday and Sunday during both 100 and 200-yard Light Varmint (LV) & Heavy Varmint (HV) classes. Jack, using Lapua .220 Russian cases and Vihtavuori N133 powder, won 3 out of the 4 aggregates, finishing 1st place in HV Grand and 1st place overall.

“The performance consistency of Vihtavuori N133 powder throughout the temperature changes each day allowed me to maintain my peak rifle-tune. This temperature stability is an absolute must for shooters to compete at the highest levels”, Jack commented.

Jack followed up his win by competing at the 2023 Fall Finale Benchrest Match held at the Shelby Country Deer Hunter Association on October 14th and 15th.  In the final match of the year for NBRSA’s Eastern Region, Jack finished 1st place in both LV and HV Grand aggregates and 1st place in the 2-Gun overall. Congratulations on an awesome performance!

Jack’s group size aggregates were as follows:

  • 100 Yard – .1918”
  • 200 Yard – .2233”

Lapua is thrilled to congratulate Chris Simmons on winning the first-ever International Precision Rifle Federation Precision Rimfire World Championships. This highly anticipated match took place August 18 through September 3rd in Collazzone, Italy.

The International Precision Rifle Federation World Championships were held at the Piancardato Tiro A Volo range bringing together the top shooters from 23 nations. The three-day event had competitors tackle a challenging course of fire at different distances, shooting from both supported and unsupported obstacles, long-range shots, and moving targets all within tight time constraints.

Simmons, no stranger to the winner’s circle, was part of a two-year selection process to represent the United States at the inaugural event. Over the past nine months, Simmons took his training to another level, getting up before daylight to hit the range. He then spent every night until dark running 10-12 different positions in a 90-second timeframe, firing hundreds of rounds daily.

After surviving tricky wind conditions and bad wind calls, Simmons found himself in second place prior to going into the last two stages. Knowing what he’d overcome gave Simmons the motivation to clean the last two stages.

“Paul Dallin and I ended up tied and it came down to the fastest aggregate time of all the stages,” commented Simmons. “I won the World Championship by 23 seconds in 2023! Paul is a hell of a shooter and competitors and was tough to beat. Congratulations to him on his second-place finish!”

1. Chris Simmons, USA
2. Paul Dallin, USA
3. Payton Grimes, USA
4. Tyler Orth, USA

“It was an honor to be able to represent Team USA in the World Precision Rifle Championships in Italy. Thank you to Lapua for supporting both myself and the US team with quality ammunition,” stated Simmons.

Simmons’ Lapua Act-X .22LR ammunition was matched to his VuDoo rifle at Lapua’s Rimfire Performance Center. Sponauer brings a long and accomplished competitive shooting background to Mesa’s Lapua Rimfire Performance center. He started with three-position and prone at the age of 14 under David and Deb Lyman at The Blue Trail range in Wallingford, CT, where he won numerous state and regional matches. Sponauer, who graduated from the University of North Georgia, shot for their NCAA 3-P and Air Rifle teams, served as multi-year team captain, and managed lot testing ammunition for the team. Patterned after the world-renowned Lapua Test Center in Germany, both the Marengo, OH, and Mesa, AZ Lapua Rimfire Performance Centers provide shooters the opportunity to test multiple lots of ammunition under tightly controlled conditions. Each of the Lapua Rimfire Performance Centers offer the unique ability to test ammunition at both 50 and 100 meters, simultaneously. By comparing the results of various ammunition lots at both distances, the best performing lots will offer a distinct competitive advantage.
